Posted on: 11/04/2012

The Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) has declared in a press release after its Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting that they have decided to intensify the political struggle for the liberation of the Kurdish people against the violent and oppressive policies of the government.

It has also been stated in the press release that the BDP will be more active to make heard the demands of the hunger strikers for better health, safety and freedom conditions for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Leader Abdullah Öcalan. BDP Co-Chair Gültan Kışanak and other BDP deputies are to visit the Osmaniye T Type Closed Prison where 13 hunger strikers are on the verge of death. “Hunger strikes carried out by about 1,500 prisoners have reached a life-threatening point. Yet, the government and the public keep more and more silent. BDP will work with might and main to make sure that the hunger strikers’ demands are heard and realized,” said the press release.

It has also been noted that BDP will continue to exhibit the operations of ‘political genocide’ against the Kurds and that demonstrations will be held in Cizre (Şırnak), Mersin, Doğubayazıt (Ağrı) and Suruç (Urfa) where the Kurds showed great resistance against the government’s bans on Newroz and Amara demonstrations.
